Focus of research: "Smart Regulation"

Smart Regulation takes an interdisciplinary approach to regulatory objectives, institutions, addressees and instruments in order to generate theory- and evidence-based findings for science and practice.

Field of Excellence "Smart Regulation"

CLP is part of the Field of Excellence (= profile area) "Smart Regulation". "Smart Regulation" is one of the 5 Fields of Excellence at the University of Graz. "Smart Regulation" brings together research projects that deal with research into the legal challenges of new technologies (such as the internet, algorithms, artificial intelligence, big data) or with the development of new science-based forms of regulation. The CLP project is primarily concerned with the interdisciplinary foundations of human decisions that are subject to the influence of legal rules (i.e. with science-based forms of regulation), but also with the new challenges of digitalization for the law.

The Field of Excellence "Smart Regulation" extends across the following faculties:

  • Law,
  • Social sciences and economics,
  • natural sciences (psychology) and
  • theology (ethics).
